What this validator checks for Germany

  • German VAT identifiers (DE + 9 digits) with the ISO 7064 check digit
  • Electronic address schemes 9930 and 0204 against the Peppol EAS list
  • Buyer reference (BT-10) — required by Peppol and used for Leitweg-IDs in B2G
  • Line, VAT category and total calculations (BR-CO-10 … BR-CO-17)
  • Single document note rule — relaxed when both parties are German (PEPPOL-R002)

Peppol or XRechnung for German customers?

German law accepts any structured format that follows EN 16931, so a Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 invoice is a valid e-invoice for German B2B customers. Public-sector buyers usually expect XRechnung, which is a stricter national profile on the same UBL syntax. If your buyer uses Peppol, send Peppol BIS 3.0; if they asked for XRechnung, validate with our XRechnung page instead.

What a PDF no longer does

A PDF attached to an email is not an e-invoice under the Wachstumschancengesetz. During the transition period until the end of 2026 (2027 for smaller companies) paper and PDF are still allowed with the buyer's consent, but every invoice must be machine-readable once the issuing obligation applies.
