Also available in:NederlandsFrançais
What it means
The VAT number has the expected format, but its check digit fails the national calculation. This is a warning of a possible typing error, not confirmation that the registration is inactive.
Typical causes
- Two digits were swapped.
- A digit was copied incorrectly from a customer record.
How to fix it
- Compare the number with an official document or confirm it with the business.
- Check it in VIES where applicable.
- Correct the recorded number and validate again.

What the rule says (technical)
The VAT identifier has the right shape but its check digit does not match the national algorithm — it is most likely a typo.
Verify the number in VIES or with your customer and correct the digits.
