Wrong EndpointID: fix BR-63 and PEPPOL-COMMON-R043

Also available in:NederlandsFrançais

The seller’s and buyer’s Peppol address sits in the XML as EndpointID, with the scheme in the schemeID attribute. For a Belgian company that is 0208 with the enterprise number as ten digits (0403170701), or 9925 with the VAT number (BE0403170701). Dots, spaces, a missing schemeID or BE under 0208 make the invoice fail before delivery.

What the error codes mean

The sending access point rejects the invoice before delivery, so your customer never sees it. The cause is almost always in the customer record or in your own company details in the accounting software.

  • BR-62 / BR-63: the seller’s (BR-62) or buyer’s (BR-63) EndpointID has no schemeID.
  • PEPPOL-EN16931-R020 / R010: the seller’s (R020) or buyer’s (R010) EndpointID is missing altogether.
  • BR-CL-25: the schemeID isn’t in the official list, e.g. BE, VAT or KBO instead of 0208 or 9925.
  • PEPPOL-COMMON-R043: a number with scheme 0208 isn’t a valid 10-digit enterprise number. This applies to the EndpointID and also to PartyIdentification and CompanyID with schemeID 0208.

What a correct Belgian Peppol address looks like

The scheme goes in schemeID, the number in the element’s value.

  • 0208 + enterprise number: 10 digits with the leading 0, no BE, dots or spaces (0403170701).
  • 9925 + VAT number: BE followed by the 10 digits (BE0403170701).
  • The VAT number in PartyTaxScheme/CompanyID always carries BE.
  • Old 9-digit numbers get a leading 0: 403170701 becomes 0403170701.
Correct: buyer with a 0208 address

Which ID should you use for your customer?

Use the ID under which your customer receives invoices. According to the federal FAQ, Peppol providers register Belgian companies under the enterprise number (0208); 9925 is optional. Some companies are still only registered under 9925. Check it with the free Peppol check before changing the customer record: a correctly written address that isn’t registered doesn’t arrive either.

Fix it in your accounting software

  • BR-63 or R010: open the customer record and enter the Peppol ID with the right scheme.
  • BR-62 or R020: enter your own Peppol ID in your company details, usually 0208 with your enterprise number.
  • PEPPOL-COMMON-R043: remove BE, dots and spaces from the number under 0208, or choose scheme 9925 if you really mean the VAT number.
  • Export the invoice again and check the XML before you resend it.

Frequently asked questions

Is BE0403170701 under 0208 really wrong?
Yes. 0208 expects the 10 digits only. With BE in front, PEPPOL-COMMON-R043 fails. To use the VAT number, choose scheme 9925.
Must the number in PartyLegalEntity also be written without dots?
Yes, if you give it schemeID 0208. PEPPOL-COMMON-R043 checks every number with scheme 0208, not only the EndpointID.
The EndpointID is correct, but the invoice doesn’t arrive. Now what?
That address is probably not registered for invoices. Check 0208 and 9925 and use the ID that receives invoices.
