Business Central provides electronic document functionality and connects to external access points for document exchange. Microsoft distinguishes the newer E-Documents framework from the sending workflow documented for versions before 2023 release wave 2.
Before you start
- Identify the E-Documents framework applicable to the installed version.
- Set up the electronic document service.
- Arrange credentials and any required agreement with an external provider.
- Complete company, customer, item and unit-of-measure master data.
Step by step
- 1Complete the core E-Documents setup for the installed version.
- 2Open E-Document Services.
- 3Select the appropriate Service Integration.
- 4Choose Setup Service Integration and configure the provider connection.
- 5Check customer identifiers and the document sending configuration.
- 6Create and post the invoice using the configured electronic document workflow.
- 7Review the electronic document processing result.
Why invoices from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central get rejected
- Missing partner, item or unit-of-measure master data can leave required electronic invoice information incomplete.
- Selecting an electronic format does not replace the external provider connection needed for network delivery.
- Do not apply the older Post and Send procedure without checking the installed framework.
Good to know
- Microsoft’s older sending article names PEPPOL without establishing a current BIS version.
- Provider and localisation requirements differ; some routes require an additional app.
